In Ardemil, they have held a festival for several years which consists of the recreation of a traditional Malla. The Malla is the operation which separates the grain from the straw of the cereal. This festival takes place in the month of August in the village of Castro and is organised by a cultural association.

The county of Ordes was a cereal producing area. Wheat and rye were what the peasants used to pay their rents to their lords, until the lords were no longer the owners of the land. White bread used to be only eaten on special or festival days. The harvest was a key date in the agricultural calendar due to the importance of cereal crops and for the speed required to store it. As a result these tasks were carried out in groups of neighbours who would help each other, always ending in a party to celebrate the end of a cycle, but also to get everyone together.

The recreation of traditional activities is done when they have disappeared or lost their function and importance and their protagonists want to remember older times and moments for the necessity of social memory and the strengthening of the ties between neighbours.
