The Road does not currently pass in front of the church of Santa María de Cambre, but the importance of the historic territory of As Mariñas dos Frades is capital.

The town of Cambre is located on a Roman ruin. The remains that were found and placed in museums come from a villa with baths and mosaics. Next to this ruin a monastery was founding in the 9th century.

The church, located in the centre of the town and in a green area, is an important Romanesque temple, constructed in the 12th century in three phases, starting with the western façade and not with the apse. It has a Latin cross floor plan with three naves; the apse has an ambulatory, something typical of the pilgrimage churches and not common in Roman Galicia, and five chapels.

On the western façade there are two buttresses than frame the area of the door. In front, they have two columns, something rare in Roman Galicia. On a capital is Saint Michael treading across souls. From the door one can see a representation of the condemnation of the prophet Daniel to the pit of lions. The prophet is between two monsters, which can be understood to represent sin in contraposition to Daniel, impeccable way of life. In the tympanum, a lamb in a circle, carrying a cross surrounded by angels is shown. Above, a rose window.

The iconographic reading of this façade can be done with relation to the Final Judgement and the salvation of the soul.
